Pedagogical Creed/Philosophy Statement
I have many ideologies which drive my thoughts about the type of teacher that I want to be. A key component of a classroom is one in which the students believe that they have a chance to succeed. My primary purpose in teaching students is to motivate, direct, and assist each individual towards positive growth, both cognitively and affectively. When teaching English, I strive to incorporate the Common Core Standards. It is vital to develop each student's reading, writing, analyzing, and speaking skills. When teaching Mathematics my job as an educator is to create problems that tap into my students’ natural curiosity, so they will want to actively participate in the mathematical discussion. My goal as a mathematics educator is not to teach mathematics, my goal is to teach students mathematics. I am a strong believer in differentiated instruction because it seems only fair to me that every student be allowed a chance at learning. Not all my students are going to learn in the same way or at the same pace so it is my job to make sure that in my lessons I am able to reach every individual at some point of the instruction. I feel that being a high energy teacher is significant. Why should the students get motivated to learn a lesson if I don’t look like I’m excited to teach it?
